LONNIE DONEGAN MBE THE KING OF SKIFFLE
After paying tribute to Bert Weedon last week and the influence he had on many recording Stars of Music this week we look to another artist who had a very strong influence on many recording artist
“Lonnie” Donegan MBE was a “skiffle musician, with more than 20 UK Top 30 hits to his name.
He is known as the “King of Skiffle” and is often cited as a large influence on the generation of British musicians who became famous in the 1960s and loved by millions of ordinary folk like DCRs Dr Phil and Victor
This week Mon 30th April to Fri 4th May I shall be playing Classis Tracks especially recorded from the vinyl originals and re-recordings of some of Lonnie’s favourite back catalogue from the famous 1976 vinyl LP “Putting on the Style”
The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles & Albums states that Lonnie Donegan was “Britain’s most successful and influential recording artist before The Beatles. He chalked up 24 successive Top 30 hits, and was the first UK male to score two U.S. Top 10s”.
Born as Anthony James Donegan in Bridgeton, Glasgow, Scotland, the son of a professional violinist who had played with the Scottish National Orchestra, he moved with his family in 1933 to East Ham, Essex (now in Greater London).

THE ORIGINAL BRITISH GUITAR LEGEND DIES AGED 91
At 91 years old the Legendry British Guitarist Bert Weedon has passed away
Among the star guitarists who have acknowledged Bert’s help in their early days through his book “Play in a Day” are: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Brian May, Pete Townshend, Sting, Mike Oldfield, Mike Read, John Miles, Dr Phil, Steve Hillage, plus many many more. . . When Alvin Stardust visited us here last year he told us during his interview and set from the Legends Window that he recommended any one starting out to learn the guitar to purchases a copy of Bert’s Learn in a Day guitar tutor This week Mon 23rd April to 27th April we shall be looking back on the career of Bert Weedon and playing tunes by guitarist that have acknowledged they were influenced by him
With the coming of the Golden Age Of rock and roll, Bert was in great demand as the named soloist on no end of hit records, and his playing greatly aided the success on records of many of the foremost stars of the period.
Many of the rock n’ roll tunes played here on DCRs Rock Slot feature the guitar playing of Burt, early rock singers such as Tommy Steele, Marty Wild, Laurie London, Cliff Richard, Adam Faith and Billy Fury all asked for Bert to play on their records.
His virtuosity in all fields of music also enabled him to accompany such artists as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland and many top British stars, while at the other end of the music scale he played for Gigli, Paul Robeson and many others.
As a result of his exciting solos on the early rock records. Bert was asked by Top Rank to make a record as a solo artist.
Bert became the first British guitarist to get a solo record in the Hit Parade – the memorable “Guitar Boogie Shuffle”. He subsequently notched further hits with “Apache”. “Nashville Boogie”. “Ginchy”. “Sorry Robbie” “Tokyo Melody”. to mention but a few. His L.P. `s have sold in tremendous numbers; “Bert Weedon remembers Jim Reeves” sold over 250,000 while his “22 Golden Guitar Greats” L.P. reached the No 1 spot in the Album Charts, and he once again made disc history by becoming the first solo guitarist to reach the coveted top of the Hit Parade – receiving both Gold and Platinum L.P.’s for his record breaking sales of over one million copies. The tremendous success of his L.P.’s and C.D’s ensures that Bert is still among the top recording artists of Britain.
Apart from his reputation as a session and guitar soloist he is known throughout the world because of his guitar tutor called “Play in a Day”. This is probably the best selling tutor in the world and Bert is proud of the fact that most of today’s top guitarists have told him that they started their first steps on the guitar with the aid of his book. In fact he has been nicknamed ” the Man who taught the world to play the guitar”.
His book is printed in several languages and has been published all over the world. The book has sold over 2 million copies and over 30 years on remains the world’s most successful guitar tutor. It has been awarded two Golden Pages in recognition of that fact. The first by Chappell Music Ltd for the sale of 1,000,000 copies of “Play in a Day”, and the second by International Music Publication for the 30th Anniversary Edition 1957-1987 of “Play in a Day”, which was presented by Mike Oldfield on the Terry Wogan TV Show.
Bert originally wrote it because he remembered the difficulty he had as a 12 year old with a battered guitar in his hand and not knowing a thing about it or how to play it. He was determined there would be a tutor that anyone could understand and learn from without a teacher, and by anticipating all the questions that a beginner would ask and answering them in his book, he was able to help most of today’s top pop idols on their way to stardom.
When Alvin Stardust visited us here last year he told us during his interview and set from the Legends Window that he recommended any one starting out to learn the guitar to purchases a copy of Bert’s Learn in a Day guitar tutor
Through his book and television tuition it is estimated that Bert Weedon has influenced approximately 4 million guitar players over the past forty years.

APRIL FOOL!
APRIL FOOL IS DEAD AND GONE – YOUR A FOOL TO CARRY ON
This is a rhyme that children recite if anyone attempts an April Fool trick after 1st April and in some places after noon of the first day of April.
Not wishing to be deemed foolish the perpetrators of this morning “New Morning Programme” were quick to own up to the hoax and to apologize to any listeners of Celtic Music Radio or Dunoon Community Radio who were distressed, put out or felt a desire to complain at the loss of a well loved presenter or may have been tempted to change station. It was also stated that Dunoon Community Radio Presenter Victor would, now it was known that he would not be after all be presenting the morning show disregard all proposals of friendship and marriage and return the congratulation card and present.
It is expected that the organizes of the hoax whose names have been withheld under the protection of Radio Presenters Data Act will in due course release a further more detailed “The Making Off” Programme
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A press release was released this morning not to be published before 8.12am this first day of April 2011 in which the following information was given.
This programme will be broadcast simultaneously on 1530AM/FM and 97.4fm both at the same time together as well as the Internet Sites of both Radio Stations.
This initiative has been brought about by the sudden departure of Popular Celtic Music Radio Morning Mix Presenter Alex Jenkins who has decided to return to his roots and his beloved Radio Rock.
Victor At Celtic Connections 2011
Manran a Celtic Band On A Quest
Mànran ( tuneful sound or melody) are hoping to be the first band in the 21st century to take a Gaelic songs into the official UK top 40. Capercaillie were the last Gaelic band to achieve chart success in the 20th century with the June 1995 disc Ailein Duinn (Dark Alan) which some say came about on the back of the success of the May 1995 Top 20 chart success for Runrig with An Ubhaol As Airde (The Highest Apple) .
Whatever, a great year for Gaelic with two Gaelic tunes in the charts 1995.
“Latha Math” ( Good Day ) was written by singer guitarist Norrie MacIver who says “it describes an idyllic and peaceful day in his native island of Lewis in the Western Isles.” Norrie’s band mates who like Norrie have been for some years entertaining the crowds in Scotland and throughout the world in various line-ups are: Gary Innes (accordion), Ewen Henderson (fiddle/ pipes) Calum Stewart (flutes/uilleann pipes) Ross Saunders (bass) and Scott Mackay (drums) Launching the single as part of the Celtic Connections Festival has proved to be very popular with the festival goers and the media attention around the chart quest has put them in the media spotlight. Victor interviewed the band live for broadcast on Dunoon Community Radio through Celtic Music Radio Celtic Connections Live transmissions prior to the boys featuring on Reporting Scotland and on BBC online reaching hundreds of thousands of viewers in their quest for chart success and to support both the Gaelic language and traditional Scottish music.
In interviews the band have told of their reaction to recent events and their quest for chart success Band member Gary Innes, who as you all know is the captain of Scotland’s shinty squad (In 2010, Gary scored in the last minute to clinch victory for Fort William in the final of shinty’s premier trophy, the Camanachd Cup, to pick up his fifth winners’ medal) .said: “The reaction to Manran has been amazing, we have had so much support from fans and visitors to Celtic Connections with a fantastic reception at the 02 ABC and a great turn out at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and our promotional gig at Glasgow’s Apple Store on Buchanan Street. “We need to achieve at least 7500 downloads to make history and break into the Top 40 UK chart and we need all the support from the public to make this happen.
”Mànran maybe the hottest new band on the Scottish music scene and since coming together in June 2010 they have worked hard on their craft playing at festivals in Europe as well as gigging here in Scotland but to choose to support Skerryvore on the eve of their single launch some may say risky others brave.
Playing to a packed house of mainly Skerryvore fans which must be said were in very high spirits having just enjoyed a fabulous lively Ceilidh set by Calum Iain MacCorquodale and Malcolm Jones Manran gave as good if not better than I think most folk expected, from the very first tune with its “come on” false here we go starts winding the audience up in anticipation till breaking into a crescendo of modern Scottish Celtic Sound combining driving accordion, fiddle, Highland pipes, Uillean pipes and melodic flute all kept in time by powerful drums and bass.
Listening to these new kids on the block with their powerful songs in Gaelic and English underpinned by rock steady drums and bass and watching the immediate delight of the audience I couldn’t help but wonder if Malcolm Jones he off Runrig fame, on holiday and with the previous act was standing in the wings watching and listening and did his thoughts go back to the days when he and the rest of a young Runrig were creating and sometimes without the delight of the audience the sound and spirit undoubtedly the forerunner to what we were now listening to now the sound of modern Gaelic Scotland. The main thing lacking in their set and something only time will bring about was they sounded like a new band, a future excellent band, all the ingredients and the best of ingredients being there, they just need to gig more and a few more familiar tunes for audience participation and just a personal thing, not just for Manran but for all bands I Love singing along to the tunes but looking for lyrics sometimes can be a nightmare. To bring a little showbiz to the set they were joined on stage by legendary accordion player and musician Phil Cunningham who along with Calum Malcolm (Wet Wet Wet, Simple Minds and Runrig) produced the single and to finish in grand style the band were joined on stage by eight Celtic dances. I am glad I had this opportunity to catch Manran at this stage of their career and hope it last for a long time but these are six guys who are only too aware of the business they are in and their heads will not be easily turned nor can I see them being seduced by the business and as Gary Innes said of Manran in an interview after the concert “We want to do the best we can to promote the kind of music we all love and to further the Culture we are all part of, most of all we want to enjoy the experience that is Manran and to share it with our families friends and fans. If it all ends tomorrow we want Manran to have been a fabulous experience for everyone. I for one say Long may it last!
At the time of writing Manran have not have got into the UK top 40 (61) but have got number 1 in iTunes singer/songwriter chart, number 6 in the Scottish charts and number 6 in the Radio 1 indie charts.
Latha Math is still available for download on iTunes, Foot Stompin’, Play.com, MOG, Emusic, We7.com, Napster, Tesco digital. And you can follow Manran at http://manran.co.uk/wp/ and also on Facebook and Twitter
THE IMAGINEERS IN THE STUDIO 3rd December 2010
As a prelude to their forthcoming Gig at the View the band : Steven Young, lead vocals, Lee Ballard, lead guitar and Alastair Greig , Semi- Acoustic bass visited the Dcr studio last night. The fourth member of the band Stephen Forbes ,drums and percussion had problems trying to get his kit up the stairs to the studio and spent the whole evening stuck on the stairs with his big bass drum( he has asked Santa for a Drum Tech/Roadie for Christmas )
The band who all hail from Glasgow first got together in the summer of 2006 When Ali out walking his Bass Guitar (apparently he never goes anywhere without it) visited the wee corner shop where he saw these two strange looking guys (Steven and Lee) pinning a notice on the wall advertising for a bass player to join a band. Informing the guys that he indeed was a bass player and this was a scenario from whence legends begin an audition took place there and then and Ali was given the gig.
Since then the Band have been working very hard cutting their teeth as a bar band playing many chaotic nights in Scotland’s seediest lounges in order to pay their way, travelling where ever the gigs take them even to play gigs in Liverpool at the Famous Cavern and Zanzibar Clubs.
Having thawed out and with some warm coffee to help the circulation the boys then played a cracking acoustic version of their latest double sided single Mariana followed by Fairground. The band write all their own material and are just about to go into the studio to start work on an album with one of Scotland’s finest Record Producers and are hoping to release an E.P. very shortly. When it was commented on that quite a few of the bands recent songs could be classed as what some concert goers would class as anthems the band seemed well pleased they were viewed that way, first and foremost they wanted their music to relate to their audience and if this brought on a vocal response with the audience singing along then it couldn’t get any better.
Asked if there was a romantic even sentimental side to the song writing the trio played Shadows of Love which turned out to be a swaying arms in the air ballad just waiting for an arena chorus with a powerful bass line from Ali’s acoustic bass augmented by Lee’s mandolinesk Guitar sound, this was soon followed by Spanish Sands which convinced every one in the studio that we had better go along to tomorrow nights gig at the View prepared to sing.
In talking about their song writing it was hinted that Dunoons Puck Glen may feature in future song as Steven finds it a very romantic place and before young ladies start camping out, Steven added it’s a place he unfortunately doesn’t get to visit often enough
Well over the allotted time and with the pub calling the band finished as they had started with a brilliant stormer of a tune “The Imagineers” which had the whole studio audience singing along- the only thing missing – ten to twenty thousand other voices but that surely must come and we can’t wait.
SKERRYVORE AT CELTIC CONNECTIONS
It was only last July that Skerryvore sat in the DCR Corridor prior to their concert at the Dunoon Queens Hall reviewing their latest Album that they had just successfully launched the previous night at the O2 Glasgow.
Now after touring across the world from Chicago to Beijing with it here they are again at the O2 Glasgow for another Celtic Connections appearance by the band.
From the moment the first chord rang out it was apparent that this was what this audience was here to see. As the band weaved through their song catalogue selecting songs and tunes from their earlier first two albums as well as their latest it was noticeable that the audience where very much in tune with their work, more so than last July.
When Alex mentioned that this was the very first song he had been “forced to sing” by the other members of the band, members of this audience had already screamed out the title as if it was “name this tune” and when mentioning that this next song was the first he had written the audience again beat him in naming it.
The main difference to previous concerts was the audience reaction to the band from the earlier days when the “wee boys from Tiree” where playing the Ceilidh and ladies of a certain age who should have known better wanted to mother them the audience now consist mainly (still a few Ladies with mothering instincts) of mature Skerryvoreans who know the band, their history and a sign of true fan, knows most of the lyrics which can only be got by repeated listening to the cds.
From their traditional roots the band have developed their sound to embrace the sounds of modern Country Rock and Funk in a way that always compliments their traditional music and songs.
Their outstanding musicianship, their writing and arranging and the voice of singer Alec Dalglish now sit very comfortable across the band and with their gig dates getting larger by the day, this band seven years in and with a faithful following have it all there in front of them Check out Skerryvore http://www.skerryvore.com/
If you'd like to say "hello" and leave a general comment,
On Monday you will have Trish and Angie in the driving seat agai , I know , I know, I did offer great sums of money, I think at one point I was offering over a pound, but they insisted in volunteering to stand in! Expect the usual shenanigans and there may be a bit of mayhem but it’s only for one night I have asked them for no spooky stuff but you know what they are like, so just make sure the baby is in the other room and tell the children there will be no questions answered. By the way if they should mention anything about a sleepover or wearing pg.’s in the co-op ignore them, they should know better at their age. On Tuesday Simon will be taking over for the first time so be gentle with him you could even text him to make him feel welcome. Wednesday Des will be standing in again, I know you ladies like Des, it’s just the music he plays on his late Friday night Rock Show, I know it confuses you and it doesn’t sit well with the coco and then he has these strange listeners that text him during his show .I did speak with him and he apoligises for not playing more Dean Martin and Barry Manillo in his Rock Show but he explains it is a different type of Rock he plays however he has assured me that should you text in any Dean Martin he could easily open up Garry Dj Marshalls record box. I look forward to catching up with you all on Thursday so take care till then
Well done everyone from team O.B. DCR97.4fm we have had lots of compliments from both the organises and folk who were there, a very fine job was done by all. I am sure the rest of the team will not mind if on behalve of us all I say a big well done to a certain lady who for the very first time went out and about amongst folk with the mobile mike to conduct interviews to be broadcast through the P.A. and through her fear, to do such a stirling job, well done that lady from us all –true “rock”
I hope you all enjoyed the day as much as I did, a really good day out, a lot of fun and it’s so good that the folk who came out to the event enjoyed it too. Here’s to the next one
Victor
So So Sad ,Lets play some tunes when I get back on Thursday.Oh Amy you predicted you would die at 27, you didn’t have too you know. You are safe now free from the demons joining the big band above, sing to your hearts content sweet lady.
Listen to the tunes that truly where there at the start of the beginning, most you will know instantly some may have heard DJNorie B play them first time around and some you may have not heard for a long time.
Victor I didn’t actually mind if you dedicated the Brilliant Chris Du Burgh song “Patricia the Stripper to me” because it’s a great song and besides no-one could possibly think it referred to me,…they just wouldn’t believe that I would have been around “on a Saturday night in 1924″ because…………it was actually a Sunday in 1925!!!!
Kind Regards
Delicia
Hello Every One
Deacon Blue will be hoping to replicate the experience of their phenomenal absolutely brilliant performance at Worthy Farm (Glastonbury) and for all those lucky enough to see this event tonight –enjoy ,you may never see the likes of this again.
The band were a surprise choice to headline the acoustic tent against Chris Martin’s rock giants Cold Play on the Pyramid Stage, expectations were low and they expected to be playing to a handful of farmers and a few piglets and sheepies.
Thousands of music fans – the majority of whom were still in nappies when the old Scottish rockers last played the festival 20 years ago – were pushing for a place under canvas in the acoustic tent – and it wasn’t even raining.
At the end of a hit-laden set, the band were walking off to a reception none of them ever expected – or evidently the planners on BBC3 who were running around very confused, just hope this memorable performance was captured on video
Tonight (Monday 11th July), Ricky Ross, Lorraine McIntosh, drummer Dougie Vipond and keyboard player Jim Prime will close this weekend’s three-day Tall Ships Festival in Greenock.
The gig, which will be followed by a fireworks display reminiscent of their memorable performance at Glasgow’s Big Day in 1990, will bring to an end this which could well turn out to be the top Scottish festival of 2011.
The 1998 Tall Ships event in Inverclyde is still remembered as one of the area’s finest hours in recent times.
Deacon Blue are the last act on a free three-day bill which has included Lulu (Saturday) and hirsute harmonizers The Magic Numbers last night .
All three will have played their open-air concerts at the town’s Inchgreen depot, a former bus station which is part of a strip of post industrial land and brownstone warehouses now being smartened up for retail and accommodation.
Similarly, the band’s appearance has changed since their chart-topping heyday in the 80s and 90s.
Bassist Ewan Vernal left to pursue interests in jazz and folk (he recently performed with the reformed Love & Money) and the tragic death of Graeme Kelling from cancer aged 47 in 2004 put ex Del Amitri guitarist Mick Slaven on lead duties.
They now also feature film composer Gregor Philp on guitar with new bass playing recruit Lewis Gordon fresh from working with Jon Fratelli and Sharleen Spiteri.
Tonight on the LLLVLBS join me as together we take a look at the incredible Deacon Blue.
Their first album ‘Raintown’ set the precedent, spending 77 weeks in the album chart, and with five top 5 UK albums (of which 2 were number 1) under the belts they have chalked up an impressive 4 years in the British album charts. Their seventeen top 40 singles resided in the chart for more than 2 years. They may be serious about creating timeless songs, but are never afraid to have fun with the live experience, challenging the strength of the world’s concert hall floors for “bounce-ability”.
This week we shall play tunes from those top 5 UK albums and next week- (yes we couldn’t do it in one week) we shall listen to some of the memorable “Live” performances
Hello Everyone,
Listen in tonight to TLLLVLBS AT 5.00pm when I shall be talking about how you could be on the “Telly” because ………………………………………………………………………………….. We have had a wee message from Emma Shearer our newest best friend who is an assistant producer with Silver River and is making a new programme called ‘FULL HOUSE ‘ and is in the process of looking for families to take part and wondered whether any of our listeners here in Cowal would be interested in doing so and possibly ending up on the “telly”
The programme itself is a factual series that looks to explore multi-generations living under one roof in the current climate. Throughout the programme it will explore the economical and social values it has on the family as they decide to pool all their resources to live a life of communal living in one luxurious property they perhaps never dreamed of owning.
As a trend that has already formed in the States they are very much looking forward to seeing whether this is something that would take off in the UK, enabling families to live in the splendour they have worked hard for, whilst solving some long distance issues, financial problems and other personal ones within their family.
Emma is looking for families who are willing to trial this from two nights to a maximum of two weeks and hope that some of our listeners may be interested to see what a life of luxury they could potentially live.
If you would like to know a little more about Silver River here is link http://www.silverriver.tv/
And if you are interested and can persuade at least three generations of your family to take part and can all be together for two nights to two weeks then you can contact Emma by e-mail or if you would find it easier you can phone her.
MANRAN CD OF THE WEEK Hello everyone, As mentioned on last Fridays Shananigans this was the band with no label nor management who have had unbelievable success and finished:
No 1 in the UK singer/songwriter charts
No 6 in the Scottish download charts
No 6 on Radio 1 Indie charts
1st featured Gaelic Tune of 2011 DCR97.4fm
at last what we have been waiting for since we first heard Latha Math way back at the beginning of the year and that is more Manran.
To be honest just seven months is not that long to establish themselves and to become one of the top bands on the modern Gaelic Scottish music scene. There unique sound, some would say because of the combination of Highland and Uillean pipes doesn’t really stand up on this CD, at least not on the first couple of listens, not to take anything from the sound of the pipes it is unique
I think as we listen to the album this week we will agree that Mànran are an exceptionally talented group of musicians who love playing tunes together and more than that enjoy listening to each other play
After only two plays I already have stand out tracks that would be ideal singles and it will be interesting if they still stand out at the end of the week or to what you think. I shall be asking you to pay special attention to a certain track Chasing Daylight which to me has a certain togetherness and an awesome bass which I think will be sampled anytime now.
Join me this week when we preview the CD which can be purchased from http://manran.co.uk or at your favorite download store from 18th July 2011
Hello every one
This Friday on SHANANIGANS we shall be listening to some Classic tunes from and legendry memorable performances from the past through to last weekend from Glastonbury. Do you remember Amy Winehouse 2007 or Echo & The Bunnymen in 1980 (oops sorry to young) what about Franz Ferdinand in 2004 or the Kaiser Chiefs in 2005 remember PJHarvey in 1995 (sorry again, still to young) You must remember The Fratellis and their Chelsea Dagger Glastonbury debut, listen in and hear all these and many more as they were played live from Glastonbury
And If you have a favorite memory there is still time to have it included let us know –you can text on 07751236995
I shall also give you a quick clue to the CD of the week for next week. This is their first Album I play them a lot on TLLLVLBS, Their first single was released in January as a download
This was met with unbelievable success
for the band and finished:
No 1 in the UK singer/songwriter charts
No 6 in the Scottish download charts
No 6 on Radio 1 Indie charts No 1 first of the year DCR97.4fm Gaelic Tune
This, all produced by a band with no label nor management but a lot of fans.
Hello Everybody ,
I know you have been really busy recently and really haven’t had time to gather up and sort out any old cloths you may have which you could give to this worthy cause but, if you could just find a wee bit of time ,you see these kids haven’t got much time either –much time to live without you giving your time.
A Fiver Survivor is the Slogan to buy a Mosquito net that is impregnated with chemicals to last 5 years that is big enough to cover 5 children £5 protects 5 children for 5 years =Fiver Survivor
Second hand clothes to help the children including under wear for girls as well as boys, something we don’t usually pass on hence the underwear in the cupboard used as dusters
recent programme . If you would like to help out and please think yes
This is what you can do
Hello Everyone here is another opportunity for you to have input into the future development of Dunoon and it really doesn’t take much effort even if like me your typing is with one finger.
Following the recent drop-in event held on Tuesday the 21st June in the Queens Hall CHORD – Town Regeneration Project are really keen to gather comments from as many people as possible to help shape the Dunoon Waterfront plans. Here is the link to the Argyll and Bute Council website so you can post any comments, queries or ideas you may have about any part of the project
: http://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/forms/ask-project-team-dunoon-waterfront-june-2011
They would also like to hear from any groups or individuals who may have an interest in Dunoon Waterfront. We all have a viewpoint on this and this is a great opportunity to put it forward and have someone take your view into consideration for the future of our Waterfront and it is our Waterfront. I shall be chatting about this very soon on the LLLVLBS and if you would like your comments mentioned on air please let me know –of course any comments I receive I shall pass on to CHORD –Keep in touch.
thanks June, but your still the queen of odes, I just do it when the mood takes me – which isn’t very often, but I’m sure between the two of us, we can work together to sort out Victors underwear situation – maybe if we sew 2 dusters together in the shape of underpants then He won’t feel the need to use his. Loved the poem Great to know I have some competition now lol
When a little boy is so proud of his second hand underpants that he wears them over his threadbare shorts to show the World…………….
When Pastor Norman Wright and Paula spoke on the LLLVLBS of the plight and need of these children in Gambia who so desperately wanted to go to school to learn how to be clever and to be able to count and able to read the words to know what they meant and to be able to write the words, it filled your heart with sadness.
Norman and Paula were appealing for second hand clothes to help the children including under wear for girls as well as boys, something we don’t usually pass on hence the underwear in the cupboard used as dusters. Educational books would also be a be brilliant donation but if you can’t help out with any of these maybe a wee cash donation may be more suited .
And as for the little boy wearing his new second hand underpants over his threadbare shorts.
They were nothing in comparison to his threadbare football top which had a football club emblem even though you could not distinguish what the club was
It was still a football club badge and that is really super super cool.
Hello Everyone Artist of the week is Toto the American rock band, founded in Los Angeles in 1977 and just about to embark on a European Tour some thirty odd years later. Of course lots of things have happened since then with changes in line ups and lead vocalist suddenly becoming backing vocalist. We shall be looking at the band best known for songs such ad Hold The Line, Rosanna and the much loved and remembered Africa Toto a band known for a musical style that combines elements f pop, rock,soul, funk, progressive rock, hard rock, R&B and jazz. They are regularly associated with the soft rock genre. I owe a Big thanks to Martin now living in Kent an ex Hospital DJ for reminding me of this talented band. If you know the band I shall try to cover at least one track from their 18 released albums including the sound track from the movie DUNE, after selling over 35 MILLION ALBUMS there is rumors the are about to go into the studio again! If you don’t know the band listen out –you are in for a treat
For the fans out there the group currently consists of Joseph Williams (lead vocals), David Paich (keyboards), Steve Porcaro(keyboards), Steve Lukather (guitars, vocals), Mike Porcaro (bass, cello), and Simon Phillips (drums).
Anyone that listened to Victor’s show TLLLVLBS this week will have heard him talk about people keeping old underpants under the sink to use as dusters, so I couldn’t resist writing this little poem for him.
AN ODE TO VICTOR’S UNDERPANTS
Poor DJ Victor had a terrible fright
his favourite underpants disappeared in the night,
“OH! what will I do’” he cried out in despair
I’ll have to go commando, cause they were my only pair,
To give him Dutch courage,he reached under the sink
and pulled out a bottle of a well known drink
and guess what he saw that made him all of a fluster
but his favourite underpants, being used as a DUSTER!.
Hi Steve just want to wish you every success on your new show tomorrow night it is great that you are sharing your Christian beliefs and experiences with the blisters of DCR as a fellow Christian we are often mocked It is great that DCR really are for the community and are willing to embrace the Christian minority amongst the community to enable them to air there views and beliefs and share the good news with everyone and don’t worry about nerves the lord will give you the words God bless June xx
choral club show
If a good show you would like to see
the Queens hall is the place to be
its full of humour and of wit
there’s even little raunchy bits
I laughed so much my sides were sore
and I found myself wanting more
the costumes were a real big hit
with men in togas and a belly dancer wiggling
all her bits
the jokes were raunchy the girls were sassy
the girl in the red boots was some lassie
it was rely great to see so many faces that we knew
giving there all to entertain me and you
In 2005 Alvin starred as the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, also at the London Palladium.
I’m beginning to think its only me
having problems with digital TV
June Potts xx
Digital Switch over
I received the letter through my door
I telephoned to find out more
I asked for the help which I believed would be free
It was for some but not for me
I’m disabled and it clearly said
I was exempt is what I had read
I receive D L A
and was told I would have to pay
£40 is what they said
I felt I was being mislead
I paid the money and got the date
Today they arrived outside my gate
two strong men Digital box in hand
but could not do what had been planned
Despite the ladder on there big white van
They said my ariel was no good
but they could not climb up on my roof
I live in a bungalow its not very high
I felt so frustrated I wanted to cry
I’m no further forward than when I began
then the two men left in there big white van
They said they’ll return in ten days or so
But what they will do I don’t have a clue
and as for there free help lets hope its for you
The boy who went out to play
A mothers son went out one day
he told her he was going out to play
She hugged him and kissed him saying dont be late
no one could have foreseen his terrible fate
enticed by what they had to say
Hindley and Brady lured him away
the boy who had only gone out to play
No one knows what rely happened that day
to the boy who had only gone out to play
they murdered and buried him out on the moors
but where he lies no one can be sure
Now his mother grieves each and every day
for her darling son who went out to play
This Weeks CD artist of the Week is really different and was chosen by Sybil Baldwin the main organiser of the Save It With Flowers Save Our Hospice Walk last Saturday. The artist she has chosen died 61 Years ago and at one time was the Worlds best known singing artist and the highest paid, the first ever talking movie belonged to him and he had hit record after hit record from 1911 to the mid 1930s.
Looking back to his popularity from the perspective of today in 2011 is a strange experience. This man much loved by millions across the world was a Jew donning the face of a Black man. Achieving worldwide success may seem impossibly naïve today, and to some, insensitive or even insulting but his work must be viewed in the context of its day, in that uncertain era between the two World Wars, with the Depression dawning, he was the jovial genius who chose strong song and sang them in a manner never heard before.
Join me from Monday night whilst together we shall listen to songs and music some of which were recorded over Eighty Years ago and I guarantee will make your toes tap, you may even want to dance to the music of AL JOLSON
Great day
It was wonderful to see so many people walking on Saturday It was a happy band of people who walked through the town carrying there flowers with there own personal messages on them They walked to the doors of the hospice and laid them there It was not a somber occasion there was laughter and singing It was so nice to see so many youngsters joining with us older ones in the community to fight for what we all believe in all to often they are given a bad name so well done to you all June xx
