FRLLY introduced her programme with the music which had been played at the beginning of her daily programmes during MOD week SONS of SOMERLED composed and executed by Stephen MacDonald making use of the fader, she introduced her theme of Scottish History with emphasis on the origins of the Clans beginning with Somerled who was the progenitor of the Mac Donalds, MacDougalls and the Stewarts. Somerled was half Gael half Norse and was instrumental in maintaining the Gaelic Language during the 12th century.
FRLLY continued to enthrall her audience with snippets of MacDonald family history taking the listener on a whistlestop tour of the Isles of Skye and Tiree using Celtic Harp music and the Corries “Sherrifmuir Fight” skimmed through the centuries to the 1700′s to pause with Oran Do Phrinnsa sung by Dingwall Gaelic Choir to do a spoken translation of the gaelic poetic description of the arriving Bonny Prince Charlie. The outcome of the rebellion the loss of faith in Clan Chief’s leadership, the Darien Project with Hector MacDonald Cask maker Tobermory who sailed from Mull to Darien, lost his first family to plague, travelled south to New York and started a second family who have faithfully typed his history into the internet archives Ishbell MacAskill sang Canan Nan Gael and FRLLY with Mary Mackay took the listener to Mouth music origins and the battle stories contained in the various styles of Gaelic Song culminating with a passionate song of heartbreak and loss sung live in the Studio by Frlly finishing with The Roses of Prince Charlie by the Corries and SONS of SOMERLED by Stephen MacDonald.

The idea of travelling by Bus to the event was well supported..Strip the Willow, Dashing white Sergeant, Canadian Barn Dance.. The Slosh ..Jigging …the floor was never empty, FRLLY met and chatted with folk who remembered her in many of her previous activities in the area, even the Mynah Bird got a mention! Time just flew by.

But FRLLY and Jeniffer spent Thursday’s All MATTERS MOD PROGRAMME singing some of their favourite Songs learnt during their time with the Choir. Mo Run Geal Dileas; Soraidh to name a couple. Chatting about the camaraderie and the team work; the singing in parts and the demands of the choir arrangements.
CD.s from Largs and Dingwall Choirs supplemented the Chat.
The Mod Squad Patrick and Rhona came along and Rhona read a little story about rabbits for gaelic boys and girls listeners and also gave a presee in the Other Language
The Argyll Male Voice Gaelic Choir have just updated their facebook page with lots of recent photographs.
The page also contains a moving tribute to Cowal Gaelic Choir’s own Charlie Downs.
DALRIADA PROVINCIAL MOD was held last Saturday 15th September. The Childrens competitions are held before 12noon and the Senior Competitions usually start just at 1.30pm.. a very civilised activity, plenty of time for a wee cuppa tea …
FRLLY arrived in plenty of time so much so that she drove along the Crinan Canal to the Last Lock and the Coffee House for a cuppa coffee and a rehearsal in the car park, before returning to Lochgilphead High School to take part in the three competitions she had entered.
The timing was so well organised that I ( Frlly) was able to stop and listen to several of the Choirs on stage in their competitions in between my own attempts and also listen to the spoken adjudications.
Gaelic Choirs, Govan Gaelic Choir; Coisir Gaidhlig Ile; Tarbert, Loch Fyne; Oban Gaelic Choir; Ceann an Tuirc; Coisir Ile ( male voice); Coisir Ile ( Ladies) Atomic Piseag ( Argyll Ladies) .
The competition pieces contain a lot of syncopation and long notes and I was in great admiration of each choirs rendering.
I spotted several well known faces in the Audience including a couple of conductor / adjudicators deep in discussion in the moments between the choirs stepping onto the stage.
My Adjudicators gave me very good written advice on my crit. sheets and I was very pleased to come third in the Traditional competition with “Young Heir of Dunvegan”

Report for 26th July 2012
A really enjoyable musical and chatty two hours occurred last Thursday evening
Pauline and Eleanor entertained our audience to beautiful gaelic airs such as Ailean Duinn and Leaving Assynt.
Pauline described the songs in English succinctly with the reminder that a short pressee description is far better than a long one.
Pauline holds the Silver Pendant Mod award and has studied Gaelic Song for some years and was able to advise us on why Mouth Music was originally created during the time when the Pipes were banned to the Scottish nation.
Eleanor played her Clarsach in accompaniment to Paulines songs and also played a couple of solos.
Frlly, Eleanor and Pauline rounded off the evening with three of their favourite waulking songs.
FRLLY
FRLLY met the CEILIDH TRAIL TOUR 2012 at the Tannahill Weavers Gig in STRACHUR on 27th July. Chatting with them I realised just how important having a LOCAL COMMUNITY RADIO is to the scattered Rural Villages of Cowal. The Youngsters on the EILIDH TRAIL are taking their music to these villages and DCR97.4FM was there to hear them

DIARY SATURDAY JULY 14th
With the Sgioba Luaidh Inbhirchluaidh at AUCHINDRAIN MUSEUM
Arriving a little late Frlly stepped into the room with the Waulk in full progress Visitors sitting on the benches and lining the walls around the table where the waulkers sang and moved the cloth, fortunately Frlly had donned her usual dress beforehand so did not look out of place as she took her seat at the table. Tara was restrained from herding the hens. and soon the Sgioba Leader Frances Dunlop called on Frlly to sing (the Silver Whistle)Our visitors included a lady from Germany who admitted to understanding English but not the Scottish English dialect. All are invited to sit down and take a turn at waulking which this lady did and sang the chorus with us.
The SGIOBA LUAIDH continue to have a full programme their next place is Benderloch and the Isle of Lismore on the 19th and 20th of July.. the end of this week!! Topagan chatted about how closely connected Scotland is to the American and Canadian People.

Men of Worth Ceilidh Friday Evening at Argyll Hotel
Following their visit appearing on Dunoon Community Radio “All Things Mod” The Men of Worth put on a great nights entertainment for their guests at the standing room only Ceilidh or should I say, sitting on the floor only where most of the late comers ended until hotel staff brought in more chairs which meant of course the dancing area was somewhat reduced.
Keen dancers took part in all the traditional ceilidh dances to the strains of Alistair Curries accordion who joined Donny and James as a guest musician along with the wonderful Flute playing of a mystery guest. I was very pleased to except the invitation to sing a couple of songs during the evening.
Donnie started off with Mo Run Geal Dileas, so I naturally sang Cercaill a Chuain and An t’Eilean Mullaich to match their selection of Irish and Scottish Music.
A Worthy night of entertainment with the duo including many of their popular hits from their many CD’s and traditional tunes which kept the dance floor full till the very last tune.
I look forward to their return visit during The Royal National Mod in October. I was very pleased to be part of it.
