Barluath
Another reason for Ian, Victor and Fiona to be at Celtic Connections was as members of the Mod 2012 committee to keep a look out for musicians and singers who will be competing in this years Mod in October to remind them of the Mod Fringe and to invite them to come along to the DCR studios and chat to the listeners so when we saw the Gaelic singer Ainsley Hamill appear in the Exhibition Hall with the rest of the band members of Barluath’ Colin Greeves – Pipes/Bass/Whistle, Alistair Paterson-Piano, Eilidh Firth-Fiddle, Edward Seaman Pipes/Whistle/Mandolin we couldn’t resist in asking for a wee interview live on air.
Ainsley was quickly nominated as spokesperson and as we were coming to the end of our broadcasting time our good friend Gordon Hotchkiss from Celtic Music Radio who was taking over broadcasting from us allowed us to run over

Ainslet brought us up to date with the groups progress who incidentally formed at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama) and were named after a piping movement that was banned in the 17thCentury for being too difficult.
The great news from this young group is they are currently working on recordings with a certain Mr Phil Cunningham who is an inspiration to so many young musicians all over the world and as one young musician told me recently “The Coolest Guy On The Planet”
Which must mean that ‘Barluath’ have a big future ahead of them. It wasn’t so long ago that this fine gentleman Mr P. worked with another new group of fine musicians on their debut album and look what has happened to them ‘Album of the Year’ Award at the MG Alba Scots Traditional Music Awards, lead singer of the group Norrie MacIver, won the ‘Gaelic Singer of the Year’ Award; and Fiddler/piper Ewan Henderson, was also involved in 2 other Awards, including one with the Battlefield Band (‘Folk Band of the Year’) of course the Group are Manran.
Before leaving for sound check Ainsley promised she and Eilidh would visit us during the Mod were she is hoping to compete and they both promised to ensure that Colin, Alistair, Edward would visit the DCR studio at the Cowal Highland Gathering where they shall be competing as members of Pipe Bands.
The Sound Check was brilliant which left us in great expectation for the real thing later that day and they didn't disappoint. They opened the Concert to incredible applause from the audience and closed their Set the same way, Defiantly see this band back on Sunday as Finalist

Stephanie Manns, McKell Ross & Gill, Seb Jonsen (The Hardy Souls)
One of the great things about Celtic Connections is the fact that you do get to see so many interesting folk from the world of Scottish music including of course the occasional “stars” and it’s not unlikely to find yourself in the cue for a cup of tea or something to eat and to find yourself desperately putting a name to the person in front of you only to realise some time later maybe at the Coda Music stand when the face on a CD suddenly becomes very recognizable.
One such face seemed to me to be totally out of place yet in the filing system of my mind defiantly came under music it then clicked, it was the wrong genre of music I had this face filed under.
I had been enjoying a session of the Danny Kyle Open Stage when the final act took to the stage with help from, compare Liz Clark explained a hurried put together backing band.
The act was Glasgow songstress Stephanie Manns who incidentally knew how to work an audience so skilfully and another talented musician who ticked all the boxes and begs you to ask why she wasn’t playing in the hall next door. Her hurried put together band was a previous act again from Glasgow McKell, Ross & Gill an acoustic, alternative folksy trio a description which really doesn’t do justice to these three singer songwriters who do really have their own sound and have really worked hard on their superb harmonies and from the reaction of the capacity audience either inspire immediate response or were know to quite a few of the audience either way it left me wondering way we at the station didn’t have them in the library.
Joining them on stage was a drummer who had the face that didn’t fit and it wasn’t untill a little furry in a somewhat refrained but skilfull drumming set that the lights came on.
DCR presenter of Tuesday’s “Anything Goes” (But Only If He Likes It) Luke was promoting a Glasgow Indie Band The Hardy Souls the later part of last summer who were making great music with incredible guitar solos and inspired non stop drum fills from drummer Seb Jonsen . Unfortunately the band played their last performance a short while ago much to the dismay of DCR presenter Luke.
Its good to see that at Celtic Connections you can see young musicians and singers being versatile in their music and honing their musical skills on folk and traditional music.
Managed to have a quick word with Seb who sends his best wishes to all DCR listeners and to Luke

Great fun bumping in to the Gaelic singer Rachel Walker outside the Exibition Hall from where we were broadcasting.
Rachel, some times vocalist with Skipinnish and organiser of the Skipinnish Ceilidh House in Oban which I am sure you are aware has now been joined by a new Ceilidh House in Fort William told us she was here at Celtic Connections not only getting ready for the sell out Skipinnish Concert at The Concert Hall but was also on the lookout for talented musicians and Gaelic singers to work at both Celilidh Houses to take part in the “Skipinnish Ceilidh Show” production for the summer season. Rachel is looking for six Instrumentalist and Two Singers.

As we were broadcasting from the Exhibition hall at that moment we craftily manoeuvred Rachel to the sound desk which Adele Goodfellow was broadcasting from for a tell all interview with Adele with Rachel bringing us up to date with the world of Skipinnish and how she was recruiting musicians for the Ceilidh Houses.
After the interview Rachel said she would be delighted to consider DCR listeners as instrumentalist or singers.
If you missed any of the details and are a confident musician who can play your first instrument to a very high standard and have the ability to read music and follow chord charts or if a Singer able to sing in both English and Gaelic and able to present yourself well and introduce songs confidently from the stage, here they are again:
Open Auditions are to be held in Glasgow at Berkely 2 Studios Wednesday 22nd February 3pm till 9.00pm. Take along your CV, and of course your instrument and drop in for a tune and a chat, you never know this summer you may be performing in front of thousands of visitors from all over the world in one of the worlds top Scottish entertainment venues.

Massive Beat generation Exclusive - This week the show will feature a 1 hour guest mix from Andy Duguid. One of the best producers / DJ's to come out of Scotland. I am soo looking forward to this one. Check the link below to see Andy DJ before Tiesto.

Andy Duguid’s career took off in September 2006 when his production “Hypocrisy” was picked up by the mighty Tiesto. The support of the grand elite of DJ’s followed soon after that when Hypocrisy gained heavy support during sets from Paul van Dyk and Armin van Burren, and after being added to Tiesto’s playlist for many consecutive weeks. Being signed to Black Hole after the bidding war that followed, Hypocrisy was an instant club smash and simultaneously landed the career of Andy Duguid, instantly establishing a name for himself in the almost impregnable forest of producers in the scene as we know it today

The official follow up “Don’t Belong” virtually followed the same path, hailed by the industry as one of the biggest tracks of 2007. Don’t Belong initially got signed to one of the biggest compilation series globally, Tiesto’s In Search of Sunrise and it didn’t take long before Black Hole picked up the single for official release. Following the release of Don’t Belong, Andy’s creation, “Wasted” firmly placed Andy in the scene as one of the best. As a result of his high quality production work, Andy Duguid soon became a frequently asked remixer for numerous prolific artists such as Tiesto, OceanLab and Cosmic Gate to name a few, which were released on the biggest labels globally such as Maelstrom, Anjunabeats, Ultra and his current home base, Black Hole Recordings.

In 2008 Andy’s dream of releasing an album came true with the release of “Believe”. Not a bad review was to be found about “Believe” and again the high quality of every track was noticeable. With collabs from Julie Thompson, Leah and Solarstone to name a few, “Believe” was regarded as one the best EDM albums in 2009 gaining 5 stars from the highly regarded DJ Mag.

Andy was now a “wanted” producer for some of the biggest names in the scene, so it was no surprise that soon after the release of “Believe”, Andy was working on another album. This time, for Julie Thompson, producing her entire debut album, “Feeling for Corners” in 2009.

In 2010 Andy’s name as a DJ was to take a huge step with the release of the brand new mix compilation series, “Miracle Moments”. The double CD showcases Andy’s mixing talents with his artistic flare which creates a 2 hour long masterpiece spread over 2 discs. Reviews around the world held the album in high regard and Andy’s fan base grew to another level.

Next to his Andy Duguid moniker, Andy produces under various successful alter egos such as Reeves, who has found a home with giant’s, Anjunabeats and Emilio Fernandez who received massive support for one of the best selling tracks on Black Hole Recordings, “Reynosa”.

Andy’s string of successful top quality releases has pushed him to the top of the production world and in turn, has seen him travel to all corners of the planet performing as one of the best DJ’s in the world today which is also showcased each and every Tuesday night on www.di.fm with his hit radio show and podcast, After Dark Sessions. After Dark Sessions is fastly becoming one of the best EDM shows on the planet. With a listenership of thousands and syndications globally, The fan base for After Dark Sessions is growing into an army of epic proportions.

To add to this already seemingly unachievable work load, In may 2011, the birth of Andy’s record label “After Dark Music” was born. His aim? To deliver you the best top quality EDM productions the world has to offer. With Artists such as Andy himself, Ruby & Tony, Not Okay and Michael Badal to name a few, the future is already shining bright for After Dark Music

As Andy quotes “To live a dream is a dream come true, For those who don’t dream don’t live”. It’s fair to say Andy is living his dream to the fullest.
