Swamp Soccer New World Championships
A report and pictures of Sunday’s events are available on the Roadshows Page, full results can be found on the Swamp Soccer site www.swampsoccer.co.uk
The 4th annual Swamp Soccer tournament is currently being held at Strachur, 44 teams are taking part in a mixed and male leagues, the seriousness these teams take in competing can be seen from their names including PSV Hangover, Paddington Bear’s Marmalade Crew (who even have their own theme tune and dance) and Mud, Sweat and Beers United. As well as watching the soccer there is plenty for the children to do with a bouncy castle, face painting, a bucking broncho and it may be advisable to bring a change of clothes as there is a mini pitch for the children to wallow in. Food and drink are also available.
Swamp Soccer is played on a pitch the same size as a 5-a-side pitch with the added joy of being up to your knees in mud. The matches last 24 minutes and each team consists of 6 players, the full team can be unlimited and they are allowed any number of substitutes.
Today and tomorrow morning the teams play in mini leagues of 4 teams with the winner of each league going through to the semi-finals on Sunday afternoon.
The pull of the mud is very strong when AC Mudlan’s opponents Boga Juniors didn’t show AC Mudlan played themselves with title sponsors representatives joining in. And the easiest way to clean up after the game just jump in the river.
We are here both days playing music so if your looking for something to do come along and see all the fun on Sunday.
