QE2s Final Trip Home
The QE2 made its final trip up the Clyde today before it becomes a floating hotel in Dubai. After leaving Liverpool in the rain yesterday it was greeted with wonderful sunshine and a large flotilla of ships to escort on its journey. There where over a hundred small motorcrusiers and yachts plus larger vessels including a Navy boat, the Balmoral and a couple of Ferries. As she passed Dunoon she blew her horn in her customary greeting. She was berthed in Greenock during the day with many people going to visit her before departing at 9.45pm to a flurry of fireworks which lit up the whole sky on her way to Edinburgh.
We have had this lovely photograph sent to us by Jean Pearson of Innellan which really shows the size of the QE2 as the Balmoral sails along side her.

What a wonderful photo. I watched the QE2 as she made her maiden voyage out of the Clyde…I want to say it was back in ‘68. She sailed past Dunoon at night back then with all lights ablaze, quite a sight!
I live in the US now (San Diego) but this brought back a great personal memory for me. My late grandfather Rab Marshall worked on her as he did for the Queen Mary too.
Congratulations on getting the QE2 on to the site with such good photos
