DCR Raising the Roof at Innellan Village Hall

To celebrate the completion of the recently re-roofed Innellan village hall and to thank all those involved, a grand evening of entertainment took place on Saturday 13th September to an excellent turn out. The DCR roadshow was invited to entertain alongside a first class programme of Entertainers .

RAISING THE FUNDING

The hall committee and other volunteers have worked very hard over the last few years to secure funding for the re-roofing of the hall. They organised events, obtained donations from the local community, along with grants from the Lottery Fund, EB Scotland, HIE, the Robertson Trust and Argyll and Bute Council. The work has been carried out by local building contractor Duncan Lauder ““an Innellan resident who agreed to start the work before the funding was secured. This generous gesture of faith paid off as all the funding was secured as the job was completed.

TOP MC STARTS IT OFF

Band at Raising the Roof Party

The event commenced with MC for the evening the very entertaining Billy Marshall who kept everyone amused with his anectodes of Innellan. The main act of the evening the musical trio Ambrose, Paul and Alan. They entertained with a set of tunes which quickly had the audience singing along and filling the dance floor. Following the trio everyone enjoyed a wonderful buffet which was provided by the local SWRI and Innellan Church Soup and Sandwiches ladies. They provided a vast array of savoury and sweet goodies, of course for reporting purposes Douglas and Victor on your behalf sampled most items and are pleased to report everything was Absolutely Truly Scrumptious. During The buffet DCR provided background music suitable for munching mixed by Fiona from Admin who had left her computer and come to the sharp end to see where all the work is done.

THE OFFICIAL PART

No sooner had we finished off the last of the home made meringues when Billy Marshall commenced the the official part of the evening by introducing Maggie Singleton from the committee who on their behalf formally thanked everyone who had contributed in raising the funding for this project. Several people and groups were mentioned including Martin Turnbull of Community Regenerations who couldn’t attend through a long committed prior arrangement but sent along his good wishes as did Council Leader Dick Walsh who sent along his best wishes and congratulations. Maggie then invited Duncan Lauder to take to the floor and to unveil the plaques commemorating those who had helped with the funding, Duncan was quick to dismiss the role he had played attributing the committee and the local community and asked if his daughter Catriona on behalf of every one could unveil the plaques.

CATRIONA UNVEILS THE PLAQUE

To a musical fanfare, a count down by dad and great applause from all those gathered Catriona duly unveiled the plaques. Angie and Sam then led community singing after which encouraged by Billy Marshall Marjory Barton took to the floor to sing the beautiful Traditional Highland Fairy Lullaby and was accompanied in the chorus by the whole gathering, which was quite a moving experience. Next up was Harry Mathieson who entertained with a couple of humorous songs which put every one in good fettle ready for the DCR roadshow.

JUST BEFORE WE FINISH

As every one had been sitting down for a while whilst being entertained we thought we would live’n things up a little by playing some ceilidh music which soon had every one up on the floor “two stepping and reeling” before really showing their moves with an all arms a waving and legs a kicking very “mature’ cheesy disco. As the magic hour approached and people began to leave all with happy smiles on their faces saying how much they had enjoyed the evening.
